Airsoft - is a modern combat sport or recreational hobby in which participants eliminate opponents by hitting each other with 6mm (or sometimes 8mm) plastic ball bearings (BB's), launched from airsoft guns, that can be powered by gas, spring, or electricly powered gearboxes. ( wikipedia entry)
Airsoft Gun - a spring, electric, or gas powered air gun that fires small spherical plastic pellets (BB's)of either 6mm or 8mm diameter. This is the tool/weapon that is used to play an airsoft game. ( wikipedia entry)
BB - acronym for ball bearing -- specifically related to airsoft it refers to a round ball of plastic that is fired as a projectile from an airsoft gun. The most common size is 6mm (as measured by its diameter), but some manufacturers also produce 8mm. The actual size of a 6mm BB is just under 6mm, closer to 5.98mm. BB's come in various massses ranging from 0.12g to 0.32g+. The 0.20g is widely used and often used for measuring an airsoft gun's energy.
Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) - in the United States was the standard military uniform worn into combat, battledress as opposed to 'display' dress uniforms worn at parades and functions. BDU's may be either plain fatigues or in camouflage colors. Color and patterns vary but airsoft teams usually wear similar BDU's into battle. ( wikipedia entry)
Callsign - In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (aka callsign or call letters, or abbr. as a call) is a unique designation for a transmitting station. A call sign is often informally adopted by individuals or organizations to disguise a station's identity. ( wikipedia entry)
Camouflage - aka cryptic coloration or concealing coloration, allows an otherwise visible organism or object to remain indiscernible from the surrounding environment. Examples include a tiger's stripes and the BDU's of a modern soldier. Camouflage is a form of deception. ( wikipedia entry)
Clone - a copy or exact replica of all or part of something. Clones are cheaper items, normally guns, that have been manufactured to nearly identical of that of the high-end brand they are cloning. Most clones are Chinese-made. The gun may appear to be the same as the gun they imitate, but the parts are cheaper and made with less precision. They do not always disassemble precisely like the orginal gun and therefore replacement parts are not always compatible.
CQB/CQC - acronyms: Close Quarters Battle (CQB) / Close Quarters Combat (CQC). Both are defined as short duration, high intensity conflict, characterized by sudden violence at close range. Engagement ranges are short, usually under 30 feet. Often this is synonymous with indoor airsoft skirmishing. In these types of battles the fps is limited to a max of 300 - 350. Full face masks are required more often in these types of events. ( wikipedia entry)
