Shotguns
Shotguns are powered by spring or gas. The spring powered ones shoot around 250 - 300fps stock. Gas shotguns put out a little higher fps and require less effort to shoot (no spring compression required). Shotguns are used mostly in shorter close-quarter engagements due to limited range and slower rate of fire. Airsoft shotguns do NOT shoot bb's out in the same manner a real shotgun does. These fire one to three or so bb's at a time. The accuracy isn't the best and most have a pump-action that slows down the time for multiple shots. Seeing one in the field is more for visual effect than combat effectiveness since small SMGs can do the same job with a higher rate of fire. This weapon would be most useful in "springer-only" declared matches at close quarters.

Sniper Rifles
Sniper rifles are normally spring or gas powered. There are a few semi-automatic electric sniper rifles on the market. An airsoft sniper rifle is designed to shoot bb's accurately over longer distances than a standard AEG. Airsoft snipers upgrade their rifles to shoot between 450 and 600 fps so the heavy weight bb's (0.30g - 0.50g) will travel the long distance and still be felt by their target. Due to the high fps of these rifles, the engagement ranges are typically set at no less than 100ft between the rifle and the target. Stock sniper rifles may shoot 350fps or less.

Grenade Launchers
Airsoft grenade launchers have more in common with the likeness of a real shotgun. BB's (30 - 120) are packed into a grenade shell. The shell has a gas chamber which is filled with green gas. The shell is then loaded into an airsoft grenade launcher. Pulling the trigger on the launcher opens the gas valve on the shell. The gas propels all the bb's out of the shell at once. These shells can be reused but one can only get a single blast out of the shell before having to reload. Effective range is close to that of the airsoft shotgun.

Grenades
Grenades are made by several airsoft manufacturers. Some games substitute tennis balls as airsoft grenades and declare a kill radius of 6 - 10ft from the point of impact. The various manufactured grenades out there function in similar fashion to real grenades but they are powered by gas. Gas sprays bb's out of tubes while a shell or port opens to allow the bb's to spread. The grenades usually have a 150fps, set low for safety reasons. Some airsoft grenades can be reused but replacement pins or parts might be necessary. Check individual product specifications for use and loading guidelines.
